During a thoroughbred race a 3yr old mare caught her quarter. She then had a infection to correct the problem they cut out the quarter wired the foot and filled it with epoxy. The mare has never taken a unsound step, however the hoof has just started to grow, about a inch or so and it is time to go back into training. My question is: Can she train safely or should she be given extra time off to repair this foot completely? Trainer says: she can train without problems with a 3/4 shoe? However I find this hard to believe and do not wish to risk further leg problems if there is a chance.
